As a busy graphic and web designer running my business, Designerbloom, my weekdays are a juggling act of school lunches, drop-offs, pick-ups, and the never-ending cycle of cleaning, washing, cooking, and repeat. But amidst the chaos, I found solace and creative freedom in making candles. It became my creative escape from the screens and deadlines, a delightful hobby that lights up my soul.
It all started with a playful desire to have my own sexy body candle. Eager to embark on a little DIY adventure, I delved into the world of candle-making and fell head over heels for the process. I must confess, I may have enjoyed it a bit too much! The joy of creating something beautiful with my own hands, and the sheer delight I felt when gifting these candles to friends and seeing their reactions, inspired me to take a leap and share my creations with the world.
HOT Candles is the result of my candle-making passion, carefully handcrafted in small batches at my home-studio in the enchanting Aotea, Porirua, Wellington. Each candle is a labor of love, taking up to 12 hours to create. From the very first candle I made in June 2022 to the progress I've made since then, I'm proud of every step of this magical journey.
Why candles, you might ask? Well, besides being a creative outlet, candle-making offers so much more. It's a form of self-expression, a way for me to explore different colours, shapes, and designs, and transform wax into unique works of art.
